A walk-on roof terrace at the exhibition center in Adelaide, South Australia, was to be retrofitted with a slope to prevent standing water on the waterproofing in the future. High traffic loads were to be expected on the area, so the original plan was to build up the slope with a cement screed. However, the additional load would have made it necessary to statically reinforce the roof structure, which would have involved enormous expense. As a cost-effective alternative, the contract was awarded to a system structure with the lightweight screed VELOSIT SC 241 from the East Westphalian building materials specialist VELOSIT GmbH & Co. KG. Thanks to the 40% weight saving compared to the conventional screed, the statics were sufficient for the structure.
