Soil remediation for the electronics industry

A severely damaged magnesite screed had to be renovated in a company in the electronics industry. Due to numerous cavities, where the underlying concrete was also damaged, the only option was to completely remove the magnesite screed. The time window for the floor leveling and the subsequent ESD coating by AB-Polymerchemie was only 10 days due to the planned start of production. After the screed had been removed, high roughness depths were created by the milling work, which required leveling with a layer thickness of 5 to 20 mm. Given the size of the area, this would not have been possible in terms of time with epoxy leveling. The contractor therefore opted for a Velosit system, which allowed the work to be completed within 2 days. The East Westphalian building materials specialist is known for its fast building materials.

Project Description

The magnesite screed was removed with a road milling machine and the substrate was prepared with subsequent shot blasting. The surface was then primed with AB-POX® 001 and completely sanded. In order to be able to install the surface in 2 sections, a joint was cut through the length of the hall and set aside. The floor leveling compound was installed using a Mobileman D5 pump truck. The leveling compound was mixed in the truck’s mixing unit using VELOSIT SC 253 binder and washed 0-2 mm sand. VELOSIT SC 253 can be used to produce levelling floors from 3 – 50 mm with a grading curve optimized for the respective layer thickness. In the first section, 27 tons were pumped and placed within 3 hours. After the truck had reloaded, the second section was pumped. At this point, the first section could already be walked on. A total of 55 tons of levelling compound could be installed in one day. The pumping rate had to be reduced to approx. 8 tons per hour, as otherwise the paving crew would not have been able to keep up. On the following day, the compressive strength was already approx. 43 N/mm2 and the determined adhesive tensile values were also over 2 N/mm2. The surface was therefore ready for coating and was shot-blasted again the following day. The coating was then applied using the AB-POX® 460 ESD system from AB-Polymerchemie GmbH, which has been tried and tested in accordance with standards since 2002, and was installed to the client’s complete satisfaction.
