Underground parking garage, Elmshorn (Germany)

Renovation

In a 2,700 sqm underground car park belonging to an apartment complex in Elmshorn, the floor had been severely weathered by de-icing salt and needed to be recoated. The car park was renovated in two stages so that at least 50% of the parking capacity could remain available. The area needed to be usable again as quickly as possible, so the client opted for a system based on VELOSIT SC 253.

Project description

To prepare the substrate for the first section of approx. 1400 sqm, the old concrete was milled off and the surface was then shot blasted. In the next step, an epoxy resin primer was applied with full-surface sanding. The following day, a self-leveling cementitious industrial floor based on VELOSIT SC 253 with 0–1 mm sand as aggregate was installed in a layer thickness of approx. 6 mm. The mixture was prepared in a Bremat S 3.17 pump truck and pumped at a rate of approx. 6 t per hour. The system could theoretically deliver up to 20 tons per hour, but this layer thickness cannot be installed with just three employees. Due to the roughness, approximately 11 kg/sqm was required, so that 16 tons could be installed in just under three hours in the first section. The area was fully accessible after three hours and could be driven on again the following day. At this point, the compressive strength was already over 40 MPa. The final strength is between 60 and 70 MPa.

A total of just under 30 tons of floor leveling compound based on VELOSIT SC 253 was used in both construction phases. The client is very satisfied with the surface and is already planning further projects with the system.
